You can help ensure that you obtain a long-lasting, beautiful tan by taking a few simple steps before and after your airbrushing sessions.   

Exfoliation

Your body is constantly shedding thin layers of skin.  Proper exfoliation (removal of the upper layers of the dermis) is really the only way to help ensure long lasting color and the most beautiful surface for your new tan.  This will also help your tan fade more naturally over time, rather than becoming blotchy.  We offer an airbrushed pretan exfoliation treatment that is ideal to use prior to your application, but you can also improve your results by using our in-home exfoliation products (or other quality exfoliants which do not contain oils) within 24 hours of your airbrushing session.  However, many of our customer still prefer to use our airbrushed pretan treatment during their session because it balances your skin's PH while removing excess oils and perfumes which will help the DHA (tanning solution) to penetrate the outer layers of skin giving you a longer-lasting, more even tan for just a few dollars more.  It is best to contact us prior to your first session to discuss your specific exfoliation routine based on your skin type, color, and skincare regimen. 

Airbrush Tanning Process

For most of our clients the airbrush tanning process consists of a specially formulated tanning solution containing DHA (the active tanning agent).  The solution is misted over the body after being mixed with a bronzing agent to give instant results as well as serving as a guide coat so your airbrush artist can see the covered areas for more even results.  The DHA takes about 8 to 10 hours to fully develop, so it is preferable to avoid showering or coming into contact with water or other liquids as much as possible during that time.  Excessive perspiration should also be avoided during this period.  If we are sculpting your tan, a second coat of DHA with enhancer will be used to add shading lowlights which give subtle definition to muscle tone and can increase or decrease the apparent size of bustlines, hips, buttocks, abdominals, cheekbones, etc.  Most of the bronzer will wash off after the first shower (preferably taken no sooner than 10 hours after your session).  However, by this time the DHA will have taken effect and should reveal a beautiful tan that should last one to two weeks before fading.  

Moisturization

For some skin types DHA can have a mild drying effect.  This may be desirable for oilier skin, but in most cases proper moisturization is preferable for most skin types.  We offer two products to help maintain healthy skin as well as your tan.  A skin moisturizer that is harmless to DHA that will soften your skin without adding more color.  And our Tan Extender which moisturizes but also contains mild levels of DHA for added color and depth but can be used frequently without over coloring.  It is best to contact us to discuss what will work best with your natural skin type and color.
